Coaching

Bontanical Garden BenchCoaching provides a guided opportunity to explore how to create positive change in  your life. This focuses on your individual strengths and aims to help you achieve what you want more of in life and at work. The coach assists you to be present, in congruence, and in integrity with yourself and your lives. Coaching is confidential and a safe space to inquire deeply and ask powerful questions.

At the heart of coaching is mindfulness. Mindfulness is a mental state brought about by being aware of present time while thoughtfully acknowledging your feelings, thoughts and body sensations. Life coaching helps you bring all aspects or parts of yourself to make choices that create an effective, balanced and fulfilling life.

If you are goal oriented by nature or habit; wish for something to change in your life; are at a crossroads in your personal or professional growth and are wishing for support and insight into this change, coaching is especially valuable. For some people, the positive change they most want may be focused on personal goals such as relationships, time management, work-life balance, stress reduction, simplification, health, etc. Others may be more interested in professional or business goals such as leadership. Some people also find that combining session or class work with coaching is very powerful.

Coaching promotes self-awareness for behavioral change. Business research suggests that individuals who are coached recognize their strengths and weaknesses, creating greater interpersonal trust and credibility. Both of these traits are measures of leadership effectiveness. Brain research indicates that one strong predictor of success in creating new habits involves the level of engagement in brain areas devoted to thinking about ourselves when we contemplate behavioral change.

In a study of quitting smoking, the more people activated brain areas involved in self-awareness, the more likely they were to have success in quitting. These brain areas were most active when people heard the quitting message that had been specifically tailored to their own needs, in contrast to “one-size-fits-all” smoking messages. It is surmised that the engagement of these brain areas helps people integrate their health-change goals with the end result of behavioral change.1 In addition, in follow-up studies the successful quitters revealed change in how they responded to general stress.

Coaching may be done in person, via Skype and by phone. This is often a wonderful entry into other types of personal work as well as a very powerful transformative experience on its own. Coaches who are teachers of Presence in Healing have unique skills and perspectives in observing, witnessing and offering compassionate understanding. In addition every Presence in Healing teacher brings their unique training and experience as a whole person with a holistic approach to each session.
